| The New York Yankees bombed four home runs, two from Babe Ruth (2-3, 5 RBIs) to finally put away the pesky Tampa Bay Devil Rays 4 games to 2 in the opening series of the tournament. The Rays were game, as they were only outhit by 1, 16-15. But they couldn't match New York's power. Tampa was also done in by stranding runners, a bunch from #2 hitter Carl Crawford. Fitting that coming off a close 3-1 game, the teams would combine for 44 baserunners in this game with the bats (and base on balls) coming to life. New York will take the victory, but a closer look at their pitching reveals a #1 seed that is ripe for the taking down the road. Tampa will go home happy, having extended the Yanks beyond what anyone thought possible. Maybe in a few years as the franchise matures, they will be a force to reckon with. |
