| The San Diego Padres threw the kitchen sink and then some at the San Francisco Giants in Game 5 of their series, but came up just short when Mel Ott plated pinch runner George Davis with the series ending single in the bottom of the 9th. San Diego used 21 players to scrap and claw their way to a 3-3 tie after 8 1/2 innings - the biggest blow coming of the bat of pinch hitter Nate Colbert when he walloped a tying 2 run HR in the 9th to extend the game. San Diego was game, but in the end there just wasn't enough offense to combat the mighty Giants. Good series, expected results. |
