| The Boston Red Sox defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 to win the opening round series 4-1. Steve Carlton kept the Sox in check, allowing only 1 hit through 7. But in the 8th, he was relieved by Brett Myers. Wade Boggs greeted Myers with a bases clearing double putting Boston on top. Jonathan Papelbon pitched another perfect inning for his tourney high 3rd series save. Good, close games all tourney. In the end Boston was just a little better and the dice held up. |
